| Around 1857 a residence was erected adjacent to the entrance gates. This served as the caretaker’s lodge for many years, with the building being extended over a period of time. |

| In keeping with the ‘garden cemetery’ trend, a variety of trees and shrubs were purchased and planted in the early 1860’s. The construction of a number of pavilions throughout the site enhanced the overall tranquility of the cemetery. |
