St Kilda Cemetery is one of Victoria’s oldest public cemeteries. The cemetery opened in 1855. The oldest human remains in the cemetery are the re-interred remains of three men from the fever ship Glen Huntly. They were first buried at Point Ormond (Elwood) in April 1840.
The cemetery is a landmark within the St Kilda community and covers 7 hectares (18 acres). A broad range of cremation memorials are available.
St Kilda Cemetery is administered by the Trustees of the Necropolis Springvale. Necropolis also administers Dandenong, Melbourne General and Springvale Botanical cemeteries. |
